HETEY – KONOK – HARASZTϔ

- 13 April– 4 June 2023

Temporary exhibition at the Vasarely Museum Budapest

13 April– 4 June 2023

The Open Structures Art Society organises a commemorative exhibition for the first time, now in honour of three of its artist members at once: sculptor Katalin Hetey (1924–2010), painter Tamás Konok (1930–2020) and sculptor István Harasztÿ (1934–2022). The artists were closely connected to each other, all three were members of the generation born between the two world wars, they had similar visions in many respects, and their work was recognised with the Kossuth Prize, but at the same time, they followed different paths, worked with different methods and their works found different acceptance.

The material of the exhibition was selected from the works available today in the legacy of artists and from two private collections worthy of recognition, so it was mostly based on the late creative periods and the overview of some topics. Perhaps for this reason, it is also interesting for those who knew the artists’ oeuvre well.

Overall, and considering its original purpose, the exhibition provides a good opportunity for personal and joint remembrance of the renowned artists, for recalling the three oeuvres and their role in Hungarian art, and for deeper reflection on the international measurability of Hungarian art.
