V.V. Victor Vasarely. 1=2, 2=1

An exhibition curated from the exceptional collection of French art collector Bruno Fabre focuses on Victor Vasarely’s concept of free passage between various mediums. Through a diverse and careful selection of posters , the exhibition reveals Vasarely’s reception in various countries and cities between 1948 and 1989. The posters spanning the artist’s half-century career feature characteristic works from different artistic periods. Visitors could encounter these creations side by side, accompanied by the starting point of some work, as well as the replica executed in a different medium and technique (whether it be painting, silkscreen, carpet, multiple or even a catalogue). The connection between the works is not created by dates, dimensions, or similarities in execution. On the contrary, it is the diverse utility of juxtaposed images that fosters a fertile dialogue.

The exhibited works reflect the artist’s credo set out in the artist’s “Yellow Manifesto” formulated in 1955 by projecting Victor Vasarely’s theses focusing there onto a single medium, underlining the philosophical significance of “recreation, multiplication, expansion” and the place of the aesthetic value inherent in reproduction in modern fine art, while also pointing out the problem of original and copy and there role in Vasarely’s working method.
